Many children with birth defects have been successfully treated in our hospital by means of surgery and also non operative methods depending on the need and the type of the deformity.

The most common Orthopeadic congenital deformities are the following
1. Clubfoot or CTEV

What is Clubfoot ?
Clubfoot is a condition in which either one foot or both the feet of the newborn child is rotated internally and deformed to such extent that the child cannot have a normal gait.
Can we detect it early?
This condition can be detected before delivery when the child is in the mother’s womb itself by antenatal scans.
What is the Treatment ?
The treatment involves early detection and manipulation procedures started from day one of birth after that from the 10th day corrective cast application by PONSETTI method is being followed for the children. After a period of 6 to 8 cast applications the baby’s leg is better after serial casting and later is followed up with correct footwear.

Some children might require corrective tendon surgeries after 1 year of age if the deformity is very severe minutes. Many children suffering from CTEV clubfoot have been successfully treated in our hospital and are happily living with normal legs.

TENDO ACHILLES CONTRACTURES
Bilateral tendo Achilles shortening due to contractures in certain children are found to be frequently neglected by the parents . In this condition the tendon is weak and the muscle is very much short and contracted which does not allow the child to place the foot normally flat on the the ground. After careful assessment and Physiotherapy these children are taken up for corrective tendo Achilles lengthening surgery after which the child recovers excellently.
Congenital dislocation of hip

CDH or congenital dislocation of the hip is a condition in which the femoral head get dislocated out of the acetabular cavity of the hip joint and remains unnoticed for a long time leaving the children vulnerable to deformities in the Hip which is usually detected when the child starts walking with a limp.
Children are detected by means of X-rays or ultrasound scan and if required MRI scan after which they are treated by surgical methods. There are multiple surgical procedures depending upon the type of the dislocation and the duration of the dislocation and the age of the child. Many children have undergone successful surgical treatment for even neglected congenital dislocation of hip the images of the videos of such children are displayed below.
Congenital spinal deformities:
Examples :
- Kyphosis
- Scoliosis
- Tethered Cord
- Spina Bifida
- Meningocele
- Menigomyelocele

Spinal deformities range from multiple conditions such as kyphosis , scoliosis with defects in the vertebra such as hemivertebrae. Children with defects in the vertebral column may or may not have associated defects in the spinal cord. Early detection of this birth defect can help us to cure these children and give them a productive life.
congenital polydactyl

It is a condition in which there is extra finger or toe for the child right from the birth. Surgical treatment allows us to give good cosmetic results after removal of the extra finger or toe.
GENU VARUS / GENU VALGUM

It is the condition where there is deformity at the level of the knee either inward or outward bending of the knee . It can occur in Vit D deficiency and can be corrected by medical correction of the deficiency or by means of Surgery.
